Plaid Nerikomi Mug

A porcelain mug with a classic gingham design.

Layers of green stained porcelain were stacked to create the checkered pattern. I took a cross section of these layers to reveal the design. This ancient technique is called nerikomi.

I used the cross section to build a mug and matching handle.  Holds 14 ounces.
